Synopsis
Caitlin's archaeology expedition is hijacked by guerrillas, forcing Hawke and Santini into a jungle rescue.
Episode recap
The season signs off deep in the jungle. Caitlin's archaeology expedition — a working vacation, in theory — is hijacked by guerrillas, and Hawke and Santini go in after her through terrain that eats helicopters and hides armies. "Short Walk to Freedom" closes Season 2 the way it opened: with Caitlin at the center, no longer the newcomer but the family member worth any risk. The title's irony does the emotional work — freedom is never a short walk in this series, not for hostages, not for POWs, and never for Stringfellow Hawke. Twenty-two episodes in, the trio ends the year fully forged.
