Dambreakers

First aired Saturday, March 9, 1985

Synopsis

Terrorists holding a commune hostage threaten to destroy a hydroelectric dam unless jailed extremists are freed.

Episode recap

Terrorists seize a commune in the shadow of a hydroelectric dam and issue their terms: free their jailed comrades, or they open the floodgates on everyone downstream. "Dambreakers" is engineering-scale hostage-taking — the wall of water is the gun, and an entire valley is in the room. The team has to thread a rescue where any wrong move triggers the catastrophe it's preventing, and Airwolf's usual solution set is exactly wrong: you cannot shoot a dam into holding. One of the season's best examples of the show building an action hour around restraint rather than firepower.
