Season 3, Episode 9 · Episode 42 of 79

Jennie

First aired Saturday, November 23, 1985

Synopsis

Hawke rescues a scientist and squares off against a robotic tank menacing a village of deaf children.

Episode recap

Hawke's rescue of a scientist leads to one of the strangest confrontations of the classic era: a robotic tank, autonomous and armored, menacing a village of deaf children. "Jennie" pits the series' humane streak directly against its hardware fetish — a machine with no pilot, no fear and no mercy, against children who cannot hear it coming. The image is pure Airwolf: technology is never good or evil, only aimed. The Lady against the tank is the visible battle; the episode's real subject is the people the machines are aimed at, and the pilot who refuses to accept collateral arithmetic.
