Season 3, Episode 7 · Episode 40 of 79

Eagles

First aired Saturday, November 9, 1985

Synopsis

Hawke backs a test pilot locked in a dangerous battle with her employer over a flawed aircraft design.

Episode recap

A test pilot discovers her employer's new aircraft has a flaw that kills — and the company would rather bury the evidence, and if necessary the pilot, than the program. Hawke backs her fight in "Eagles", an episode that takes the series' love of aviation and points it at the industry's dark ledger: schedules, stock prices, and acceptable losses. The dogfights here are corporate as much as aerial, fought in hangars and boardrooms before they reach the sky. For Hawke, who trusts machines only as far as the people who build them, it's a mission that lands close to home.
