Proof Through the Night

First aired Saturday, February 11, 1984

Synopsis

A mission to extract a Soviet defector carrying a neurotoxin is complicated when extra passengers prevent Airwolf from arming fully.

Episode recap

A defector extraction should be routine for a helicopter that outruns fighter jets — but this defector carries a neurotoxin, and the mission comes with passengers Hawke never planned for. The extra weight forces an agonizing trade-off: Airwolf can't arm itself fully and carry everyone out. It's the series in miniature — a Cold War chess problem where the Lady's incredible capabilities still can't cancel out hard human choices. The episode also deepens the show's Soviet-defector well, one it would draw from repeatedly as the real world's superpower tension kept handing the writers material. The result is one of the season's tightest hours: less spectacle, more squeeze.
