Season 2, Episode 2 · Episode 13 of 79

Firestorm

First aired Saturday, September 29, 1984

Synopsis

Reports of strange lights in the sky lead the team to a secret missile base run by militant extremists.

Episode recap

Strange lights over the desert, frightened locals, and talk that sounds like science fiction — until the team traces the phenomenon to something entirely man-made: a hidden missile base in the hands of militant extremists. "Firestorm" plays a bait-and-switch the 1980s loved, teasing the unexplained before revealing a threat with coordinates and a countdown. For Airwolf it's a chance to do scale: the Lady against fixed fortifications and men who believe an apocalypse is a plan. The episode also settles the new three-person rhythm established a week earlier — Hawke the spear, Santini the wisdom, Caitlin the conscience that keeps asking the right questions.
