Code of Silence

First aired Friday, March 13, 1987

Synopsis

St. John helps a former enemy, Colonel Combs, defend himself at a court martial after a pilot's death.

Episode recap

St. John steps into a court martial to help a former enemy — Colonel Combs, a man from the wrong side of his past — defend himself after a pilot's death. "Code of Silence" trades missiles for testimony and asks the season's most interesting character question: what does the returned Hawke brother owe old adversaries who are owed the truth? Military justice, closed ranks and the title's institutional hush give the episode its pressure. For a season often busy with hardware, this is its most deliberate people-first hour — and a window into the years St. John lost, told through the men who populated them.
