Gabrielle appears in only one story, and the series never escapes her. A F.I.R.M. agent who had served as one of Archangel's close assistants, she is assigned to Stringfellow Hawke during the pilot — and does the one thing no briefing prepared either of them for: she gets past the walls. At the cabin, over steaks shared with a spoiled hound and a man who serenades eagles, television's most guarded hero briefly lets someone in.
Then the F.I.R.M. sends her to Libya undercover, to locate Moffet and the stolen Airwolf. Moffet discovers what she is. While Hawke and Santini are stealing the Lady back, he abandons Gabrielle in the open desert to die — and Hawke reaches her only in time to hold her as she goes. The vengeance that follows, Airwolf against her own maker, closes the pilot; the grief never closes at all.
Gabrielle is the proof behind Hawke's darkest superstition — that everyone he loves is taken — and every guarded look he gives across four seasons traces back to a woman the audience knew for one film. Belinda Bauer's warmth in the role is precisely why the wound stays open.
